CUBS-ELLISON PREVIEW
The Brenham Cub Football Team continues their run through District 10-5A Division II with a road trip to Killeen to take on the Ellison Eagles at Leo Buckley Stadium.
The Cubs are currently 6-1 overall, and 2-0 in district, while the Eagles are 4-3 overall, and 2-0 in district. The winner of tonight's (Friday's) game will clinch a playoff spot, and be in sole possession of first place going into the final two weeks of the season.
For Brenham, they will rely heavily on the running game. RB Jakoby Dixon leads the team with 150 carries for 1,493 yards and 20 touchdowns. He has also caught 15 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns.
Xyran Upshaw is second on the team with 50 carries for 253 yards and five touchdowns.
Jordan Harvey has completed 58 of 95 passes (61%) for 929 yards with 11 touchdowns to just four interceptions.
The Cubs' leading receiver is Chris Guidry, who has 14 receptions for 315 yards and five touchdowns. Cartelle Brown is right behind him with 14 receptions for 233 yards and four touchdowns.
On defense, LB Caleb Espinoza leads Brenham in tackling with 83. Kristian Prosper is second with 51 tackles, and Doyle Brown is third with 39 tackles.
Meanwhile, for the Ellison Eagles, according to Cub Head Coach Danny Youngs, they are a team that is about 70% pass/30% run. They opened district with a 38-19 win over Belton, followed by a 40-0 thumping of Waco.
QB Sidney Holland Jr. is having a big season. Through seven games, he has completed 162 of 244 passes for 2,209 yards to go along with 29 touchdown passes to only four interceptions.
His leading receiver is Travaris Turner-Smith, who has 35 catches for 734 yards and 12 touchdowns. They also have two other receivers that are capable of breaking loose. Prince Hall has 44 catches for 527 yards and eight touchdowns, while Juan Ramirez has 41 catches for 491 yards and seven touchdowns.
Their rushing attack is led by Daryl Cannie Jr., who has 66 carries for 522 yards and four touchdowns. They also have Trevon Jones-Lockhart, who has 45 carries for 292 yards and four touchdowns as well.
