AREA UNEMPLOYMENT RATES FALL IN SEPTEMBER

  

Washington County and neighboring counties all reported a drop in unemployment rates from August to September.

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, Washington County’s jobless rate fell from 4.1 percent in August to 3.8 percent last month. 

The number of unemployed residents moved from 686 in August to 628 in September. 

Overall employment and the civilian labor force both grew.  Employment tallied at 16,103 in September, compared to 15,972 in August.  The labor force logged at 16,731 in September, up from 16,658 the month prior.

In September 2023, the county’s unemployment rate was 3.7 percent, with 598 people out of work.

The state’s adjusted unemployment rate remained at 4.1 percent from August to September. 

Across the region, jobless rates for September include:

  • Austin County – 3.8 percent, down from 4 percent in August.
  • Brazos County – 3.1 percent, down from 3.5 percent.
  • Burleson County – 3.7 percent, down from 4 percent.
  • Fayette County – 3.2 percent, down from 3.6 percent in August.
  • Grimes County – 4.1 percent, down from 4.6 percent.
  • Lee County – 3.2 percent, down from 3.5 percent.
  • Waller County – 5.1 percent, down from 5.4 percent.
