SIX CALLS WEDNESDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.
The Brenham Fire Department was called out six times on Wednesday.
Shortly after 9 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to East Main Street and Barbee Street for a report of a transportation incident. They arrived to find a two-vehicle accident, with fluids leaking from one of the vehicles. Personnel checked on the drivers and found one complaining of head pain. After both vehicles were removed from the roadway, the department returned to service.
Around 10:30 a.m., units received a report of illegal burning at a home in the 300 block of Pecan Street. There, they found a homeowner burning the grass around his house. Firefighters extinguished the small area and cleared the scene.
Just before 1:30 p.m., BFD members responded to St. Joseph Health Therapy Services, 2013 South Market Street, for a report of someone stuck on the roof. The department says the man was working on the roof when the wind blew his ladder over into the power lines of the building. The fire department and City of Brenham Electric Department arrived, and firefighters stood by until the electric department removed the ladder from the electric lines. They made contact with the maintenance worker on the roof, and he advised he was okay. The fire department then returned to service after the ladder was tied off.
Approaching 4 p.m., units were sent out to the 400 block of West Vulcan Street for a transportation incident. They made location to find a three-vehicle accident with fluids leaking and injuries. After all vehicles were removed from the roadway, firefighters returned to the station.
Next came a call at 9 p.m. for a gas smell inside a home in the 1400 block of Simon Avenue. The fire department and City of Brenham Gas Department arrived and found a low level of gas inside the home. The gas department stayed on location to provide a shut-in test, and firefighters returned to service.
Around 9:30 p.m., BFD personnel were called out to a report of a structure fire at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, 700 Medical Parkway. Nothing was showing from the exterior of the building when they arrived. No signs of smoke or fire were found after checking the inside of the building and the attic area, so the department cleared the scene.
