BURTON WINS HOMECOMING GAME 33-14 OVER IOLA

The first game on their new field was a successful one for the Burton Panther Football Team as they defeated the Iola Bulldogs 33-14 in their Homecoming Game.

Brady Griffin got it going for the Panthers in the first quarter with a 60-yard touchdown run. D'Mitry Schulte added the extra point to give Burton an early 7-0 lead.

The Panthers would score again in the first quarter on a 74-yard touchdown pass from K.D. Patterson to Drayton Oakes. Another PAT from Schulte increased the Burton lead to 14-0.

In the second quarter, Patterson would find Maleek Bibby on a 23-yard touchdown pass. Ashton Fuller kicked the extra point, which gave the Panthers a 21-0 lead going into the locker room at halftime.

After neither team scored in the third quarter, Iola opened up the fourth quarter with their first touchdown to cut the Burton advantage to 21-7.

Griffin would then score his second touchdown of the night on a 10-yard run. The Panthers tried for the two-point conversion, but did not make it. Burton still increased their lead to to 27-7.

Drayton Oakes later sealed the deal with an interception return for a touchdown. Fuller missed the extra point, but the Panthers were then in front 33-7.

Iola got one final touchdown, but that would be it as Burton held on for the 33-14 victory.

The Panthers improve to 6-3 overall and 5-1 in district. They have one game left on the schedule for this Friday night. Burton will travel to Granger for a 7pm game. The winner will get the #2 seed in the district, while the loser will get the #3 seed. KWHI will broadcast the game live beginning with the pregame at 6:30pm.
