The Fanthorp Inn, which functioned as a 19th century country hotel and tavern, underwent an extensive renovation project that began in October 2023.

Friday’s events include a ribbon cutting ceremony from noon to 1 p.m., and stagecoach rides around the site from noon to 4 p.m.

Texas Historical Commission Chair John Nau III said the commission is happy to reopen the Fanthorp Inn so that people can “experience ‘the finest inn in the South,’ as it was called by visitors in the 19th century.”

Managed by Phoenix 1 Restoration and Construction, the restoration project focused on exterior features, including siding, windows, the roof and paint.  Crews also performed interior renovations such as painting and outfitting the rooms with more period furnishings.

Admission to Friday’s ceremony is free and open to the public, but cash donations of $10 for adults and $5 for children are requested.

General hours for the public at the inn are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with tours available on Saturdays and Sundays.  Adult group and school program tours are available on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays by appointment.
