Four men have been arrested for armed robbery in Lee County.

On Tuesday 11:20 AM, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call reporting an armed robbery at Classic Bank in Giddings.

The caller reported that four black male suspects robbed an ATM technician and fled the scene in a black Dodge Charger.

Lee County Sheriff Garrett Durrenberger located the suspect vehicle at the intersection of East Hempstead St. and Sandridge while the Dispatcher was broadcasting the information to law enforcement.

Sheriff Durrenberger initiated a traffic stop on East Austin St., at which time the suspects evaded arrest by traveling at a high rate of speed through a residential neighborhood.

As the pursuit neared Industry Street,  Durrenberger called for a lockdown of Giddings Elementary School; as it appeared the suspects were going to bail from the vehicle on foot.

Instead, the suspects discarded currency and other evidence from the vehicle and continued to evade arrest.

An Officer with the Giddings Police Department attempted to block the suspect vehicle on South Johnson St., however the suspects drove around the patrol truck and continued eastbound on Hwy 290 East at speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour.

Soon, Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Giddings Police Officers, and Troopers with the Texas DPS Highway Patrol joined the pursuit.

The chase proceeded into Fayette County, where the Fayette County Sheriff’s Canine Unit joined. The suspects changed course, and began fleeing back to Giddings on Hwy 290.

Lee County Constable Pct. 4 joined the pursuit and Officers with the Giddings Police Department were able to successfully deploy spike strips on the suspect’s tires.

The suspect vehicle crashed into a fenceline at the intersection of East Austin St./James Turman Road in Giddings. One suspect fled on foot into a field, but was quickly apprehended. All four suspects were arrested at the scene without further incident.

The suspects included Zachary Walker of Beaumont, Jaemeel Davis of Beaumont, Treshun Green of Humble, and John Cook of Houston.

After being medically cleared, the four suspects were booked into the Lee County Jail. The LCSO Criminal Investigations Division is assisting the Giddings Police with the investigation.
