A Katy man was arrested in Fayette County after leading Sheriff’s Deputies on a wild chase.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek said they received reports Monday just before 11pm about a reckless, possible intoxicated driver on I-10 at the 661 Mile Marker that was traveling east in a grey Chevy Silverado pickup.

Around midnight, DPS Trooper Chase Grillet located a vehicle matching the description of the truck in the parking lot of the Texan in Schulenburg.

While attempting to make contact, the vehicle drove off, missing the Trooper, and got on I-10 traveling westbound. Deputies Chris Stansberry, Mark Pritchard, and Sgt. Ron Naumann caught up to the truck, but the driver refused to stop.

The vehicle exited in Flatonia on the feeder road, struck Deputy Stansberry’s vehicle in the rear, kept traveling on the feeder, and then turned on to Highway 95 as the pursuit continued.

The driver was all over the roadway, and traveling into oncoming lanes of traffic.

Deputy Pritchard was finally able to get ahead of the pursuit and deploy spike strips around FM 1115.

Deputies assisted with removing the driver, 42-year-old Robert Timothy Peterson, from the vehicle. He continued refusing to cooperate with law enforcement, and was determined to be heavily intoxicated.

Peterson was taken by EMS to the Smithville Hospital for medical clearance and then transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange.

He was charged with a DWI, Evading Arrest with a Vehicle, and Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer.
