GRIMES COUNTY ESCAPEE PLEADS GUILTY IN DISTRICT COURT

An inmate at the Grimes County Jail that briefly escaped custody last year was sentenced in District Court on Wednesday.
52-year-old Albino Hernandez Guerrero pled guilty to a second-degree felony charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and a third-degree felony charge of Escape.
The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office originally arrested Guerrero back on July 23, 2021 after he attacked a man with a knife.
The victim, who the District Attorney’s Office said was the new boyfriend of Guerrero’s former girlfriend, sustained a deep laceration that required hospitalization.
On September 13, 2023, around 1:20pm, Guerrero, who was working as a trusty in the Grimes County Jail, walked out of the sallyport, and fled on foot.
A multi-agency manhunt ensued for the escaped prisoner, which included Texas Department of Criminal Justice dog teams.
He was eventually spotted by local citizens, who called law enforcement, and they took him back into custody around dusk the same day.
Guerrero pled guilty to both charges in the 506th District Court before Judge Gary Chaney.
He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for each charge, with both sentences scheduled to run concurrently.
