BRENHAM ANIMAL SERVICES ANNOUNCES THE SNAP PROGRAM

Brenham Animal Services (BAS) is excited to announce the Spay/Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) for City of Brenham pet owners. Eligible pet owners will receive vouchers to help cover the cost of spaying/neutering their pets.

The SNAP program aims to promote responsible pet ownership and reduce the overpopulation of unwanted animals in the area. The voucher will assist with the cost of spaying or neutering a pet, an age-appropriate rabies vaccination (if needed), an e-collar, and post-operative pain medication.

To qualify for assistance, pet owners must provide accurate information about themselves and their pets for BAS to determine eligibility. The voucher, which is non-transferable and valid only for the designated pet, can be redeemed at Animal Friends of Washington County clinic, located at 3901 TX-36, Brenham, TX.

Details about the application process:

  • The owner must have proof of residency within the City of Brenham (utility/cable bill, lease agreement, etc.).
  • The owner/household may apply once every 6 months (up to two animals per household per year).
  • The owner and the animal must be present to apply for the voucher; the owner applying must also be the person who brings the animal to the spay/neuter appointment.
  • The owner must agree to have the animal microchipped (if it is not already) for FREE in conjunction with the application.
  • Dogs must be under 80 lbs.
  • Minimum age for both dogs/cats is 4 months, and a minimum weight of 4 lbs.
  • Maximum age for both dogs/cats is 10 years.

Details about the SNAP Voucher:

  • Reservation and Fees: Upon approval for the voucher, pet owners must schedule their pet’s surgery with the Animal Friends of Washington County clinic. A non-refundable reservation fee of $25.00 is required at the time of reservation and can be paid via debit or credit card.
  • Scheduling and Timeliness: Pet owners must drop off and pick up their pets at the designated times provided by the Animal Friends of Washington County clinic. Failure to adhere to these times may result in the deposit being revoked and potentially canceling the voucher. If a pet owner cannot meet the scheduled appointment time, they are asked to notify the Animal Friends of Washington County clinic and BAS as soon as possible to avoid complications.

This program provides an invaluable opportunity for community members to responsibly care for their pets while contributing to the overall well-being of the area’s animal population. BAS encourages all eligible pet owners to apply for a voucher and take advantage of this important service.

For more information on eligibility and/or to apply for a voucher, visit or contact BAS Manager Megan Gray at mgray@cityofbrenham.org or 979-337-7351.

  1. Just another example of irresponsibility. If you want a pet you need to be able to take care of it..including spayed/neutered, rabies , etc, etc. But no, let’s use tax dollars so those irresponsible folks don’t have to pay their own cost of pet ownership. Great!!! And yes…lots of animals dumped in the county…most throw their trash out while they’re dumping animals.

  2. This is only for city residents because their city tax money is paying for it. I wish the county would spend its tax money more wisely and invest in programs like this for its residents too. Leaving the city to fund programs for people who don’t live or pay taxes there isn’t how you solve problems.

  3. Sooooo, not available for county residents, for the ones who pick up the strays that the sorry excuse for humans throw away out on the country roads. Got it.

    1. I assume because of financial reasons. They are limiting it to residents of the City of Brenham because that is who pays for the service through their taxes.

  4. Please clarify that cats do not need to weigh 4 pounds to be spayed/neutered.
Please explain that the rabies shot is actually mandatory by this clinic. The price was 12.00 dollars in the past, not sure if that is still the current price. If your pet already has the rabies vaccine, then a rabies certificate SIGNED BY YOUR VETERINARIAN must be brought to the appointment.
While I understand that an age maximum is necessary, I do think 10 years is too low. Especially for female small dogs and cats who are at a larger health risk should they become pregnant at an advanced age.

  5. By within the city of Brenham I assume this means you must live within the city limits. Why is this program only offer to city residents? Where do you think all those unwanted baby’s get dropped off?

    1. Talk to your County Officials about that. County needs to take care of the county not the city.

    2. The Animal Shelter is a CITY owned service paid for by the citizens of the City of Brenham. That is why it does not include county residents. To the best of my knowledge, the county government does not offer any funding to the animal shelter.
