BLINN MEN FALL TO #3 TRINITY VALLEY 77-69
Story by Joe Alberico, Blinn College Sports Information
The Blinn College men's basketball team gave mighty and third-ranked Trinity Valley Community College a fight Saturday, but the Cardinals did just enough to get past the Buccaneers 77-69 at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.
The Region XIV home loss dropped Blinn to 7-8 overall and 3-4 in region play.
"I thought we played a really good basketball game, guarded well, played hard, and competed," Bucs head coach Scott Schumacher said. "From the film we watched we knew Trinity Valley was a good team that doesn't make a lot of mistakes and runs a good offense, and they showed that today. There were times where we were right there with them, and the game was close the entire way, we just couldn't get over the hump."
Though the Bucs didn't come out on top against the Cardinals, they gave the visitors all they could handle. Trinity Valley entered the game with a 5-1 record in Region XIV, with an average margin of victory of 31 points in those five wins. Blinn wiped away that narrative for 40 minutes, going blow-for-blow with one of the nation's best programs before running out of steam late.
The Cardinals led 38-31 at halftime.
"We had an opportunity to win, but it didn't go our way this time," Schumacher added. "All we can do is learn from this and get ready for our next game."
Sophomore guard Reese Miller paced Blinn with 19 points to go with five assists. Freshman guard Jakeel Registe tacked on 14 points and sophomore forward Anthony Isaac finished with 11.
The Bucs will look to get back to .500 overall and in region play when they visit Angelina College at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Lufkin.
