A suspect involved in a criminal ring that purchases expensive race horse feed fraudulently was arrested on Saturday in Bellville.

The arrest was the result of a joint operation conducted between Bellville Police, the Austin County Sheriff’s Office, the Austin County District Attorney’s Office, and Linseisen’s Feed in Bellville.

According to Bellville Police, the initial investigation began back in October 2024 when suspects stole over $2,000 of race horse feed. The suspects allegedly used fraudulent I.D’s and fraudulent credit cards to make the purchase.

On Saturday, they made another attempt, but this time, the suspect attempted to steal over $24,000 in race horse feed.

Members of local law enforcement were ready and arrested the driver of an 18-wheeler that came to pick up the feed, 38-year-old Alina Belarmino Medina Ricardo of Cleveland, Texas.

Ricardo was charged with Theft of Property Greater Than $750 But Less Than $2,500 and Credit Card Abuse. The total amount of his bond was set at $100,000.

The 18-wheeler was also seized as well.

Bellville Police Chief Jason Smalley said that the investigation into the case is ongoing, and he is hopeful that it will lead to more arrests being made.
