FIVE CUBS & THREE YEGUAS SELECTED TO THE 2024 ALL BRAZOS VALLEY FOOTBALL TEAM
Five members of the Brenham Cub Football Team were selected by the Bryan-College Station Eagle for the annual All-Brazos Valley Team. Also being honored were two members of the Somerville Yeguas and their now former head coach.
For the Brenham Cubs, RB Jakoby Dixon (So.) and OL Andre Mojica (Jr.) were selected to the First Team Offense. This past season, Dixon carried the ball 249 times for 2,248 yards, and 32 touchdowns. He averaged 9.0 yards per carry. He was a unanimous selection for District MVP.
A two-year starter on varsity, Mojica was one of the anchors of a young offensive line this past season that only had one senior. He also was chosen as the District's Lineman of the Year.
S Jabreon Moore (Sr.) was chosen for the First Team Defense. Moore, a three-year starter on varsity, had 40 tackles, and led the team with three interceptions and eight passes broken up.
LB Caleb Espinoza (Jr.) and CB Ledrick Walker Jr. (So.) were named to the Second Team Defense. Espinoza was a unanimous selection for the district's Defensive MVP. He had 157 tackles, 118 of which were solo, 39 assists, and four sacks. Walker was a unanimous selection as the district's Newcomer of the Year. He had 47 tackles, two interceptions, and seven passes broken up.
The Cubs won the district championship with a perfect 5-0 record, and finished the season 11-2. They went three rounds deep into the playoffs before losing to eventual State Champion Richmond Randle.
Meanwhile in other news involving the All-Brazos Valley Team, the Coach of the Year went to Somerville’s Phillip Roberts, who guided the Yeguas to their first district championship since 1983. The Yeguas finished the season 11-2 overall, and were a perfect 7-0 in district competition. They went three rounds deep in the playoffs. Roberts stepped down after the season to take an assistant principal's job with the district.
Also selected for Somerville were WR Keith Crawford (Sr.) for the First Team Offense and LB Chris Deere (Jr.) for Second Team Defense. Crawford, who was the unanimous District MVP, had 43 catches for 965 yards and 15 touchdowns. Deere was the District Newcomer of the Year with 71 tackles, five sacks, ten tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles.
