BRENHAM ELKS LODGE HOSTING FUNDRAISER SATURDAY TO SUPPORT KOREAN WAR VETERAN

The Brenham Elks Lodge invites the public to help support a local veteran in need at a fundraiser this weekend.

Oddie Carr

The “Operation Give Back” event will take place this Saturday at the lodge, 400 East Germania Street.  Doors open at 5 p.m., with a pork roast dinner at 6 p.m. and a dance at 8:30 p.m.

The fundraiser is for Oddie Lee Carr, who served during the Korean War.

Carr was born in Bastrop County in 1928.  After attending Center Union School near Smithville, he went to work at a local toy factory.  He was drafted soon after moving to Houston, and was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso.  After two years, he was honorably discharged and has spent the last 67 years in Brenham, where he greatly enjoys the country way of life.

At 96, Carr says he appreciates the life he has been able to live.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to assist with needed repairs at Carr’s home, helping with accessibility.

Meal tickets are $20.  Tickets are also available for a drawing, and there will be card games and other prize giveaways.
