SOMERVILLE ISD PLACES BOND ELECTION ON THE MAY 3RD BALLOT

Voters in the Somerville ISD will have a $42 million school bond election on the upcoming May 3rd ballot.
The bond was approved by a unanimous vote of the Somerville School Board during its regular meeting on February 12.
One of the main items is the building of a new high school, and renovating the current high school as the new junior high school. They would then demolish the old junior high school building.
The bond includes the construction of a new Career and Technology Education Center, which allow the school district to be able to offer more CTE program options for students.
Other projects in the bond would include building a second cafeteria, an Ag Barn, additional driveways and parking, renovating the high school gym’s concession area along with the dressing rooms and locker rooms, building a weight room, and refreshing the interior of the gym.
They are also wanting to move the softball field next to the baseball field, and build a combined pressbox, concession stand, and restroom facility. Covered batting cages are in the plans as well.
Over at Yegua Stadium, aka “The Rock”, the bond would include reinforcing the structural support of the bleachers, re-grading the football field, and installing railings and steps on the bleachers. If approved, they would also be constructing a concession and restroom area, as well as a halftime locker room facility.
In other Somerville ISD news, there will not be a contested School Board election on the ballot. Of the two at-large seats available, only two candidates filed. One of the incumbents, Linda Pinkerton filed for re-election. Kyle Maldonado has also filed. The other incumbent, Jason Urbanosky, did not file for re-election.
