WASHINGTON-ON-THE-BRAZOS TO HOST ‘A TOAST TO TEXAS’ MARCH 1
The Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site will soon celebrate the 189th anniversary of Texas independence with “A Toast to Texas”.
The family festival, presented by H-E-B, is scheduled for Saturday, March 1st from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is being held in place of the larger Texas Independence Day Celebration, due to ongoing renovations at the historic site.
The day kicks off with an opening ceremony at Barrington Plantation. That will be followed by entertainment from the Punch and Judy Puppet Show, Professor Gerard’s Magic Show, and Professor Thompson S. Gunn and his Mystic Arts.
Visitors can also enjoy an Independence Day Dinner Party and Ball, in addition to the 2nd Annual Republic of Texas Chili Cook-off, cannon and musket firings, readings of the Declaration of Independence, speeches and poems from the era, and woodworking and blacksmithing demonstrations.
Admission and parking are free. Food trucks will be on-site.
