The fire department was awarded $3,000 from the VFIS Health and Wellness Grant program.  The program gives out grants of up to $5,000 to assist fire departments and other emergency service organizations in acquiring health and wellness equipment.

The $3,000 will go toward the gear washer, which the department says will play a crucial role in maintaining firefighters’ personal protective equipment after being used during fire responses.  The department adds that regular cleaning helps to get rid of harmful carcinogens, reducing the risk of cancer among firefighting personnel.

The total cost for the gear washer is $6,013, and the department will pay for the half not covered by the grant.

The department says it is grateful for the support it has received and is eager to enhance the safety of its firefighters with this new equipment.  Anyone who would like to contribute toward the remaining cost can visit the department’s website, https://chappellhillvfd.com.
