CUB SEASON ENDS ON A ONE POINT LOSS TO PORT ARTHUR MEMORIAL
The Brenham Cub Basketball Team saw their incredible season come to an end tonight (Friday) in Humble with a 58-57 loss to Port Arthur Memorial.
The game was a see-saw matchup with both teams exchanging leads multiple times. The Titans would get a lead only to see the Cubs come back, and vice versa, the Cubs would get a lead only for the Titans to come back.
In the first quarter, the Titans jumped out to an early 7-0 lead. However, the Cubs outscored them 16-7 for the remainder of the period.
Brenham outscored Memorial 17-16 in the second quarter to take a 33-30 lead at halftime.
Memorial would then outscored Brenham 13-10 in the third quarter to tie it 43-43 going into the fourth quarter.
The Titans outscored the Cubs 58-57. Brenham had a chance for a last second shot, but never got it off.
The refereeing crew was also a factor in the game with several missed calls throughout the night that resulted in lots of head-scratching.
Issac Powell and Jayden Hebert led the Cubs with 14 points each. JaKobe Mathis added 13 points. The Titans' defense held Brenham's leader scorer, Elijah Ferguson, to just nine points, and Chris Guidry finished with seven points.
Brenham's final record for the season is 26-9.
