BRENHAM BOWLING PREPARING FOR REGIONALS

The Bluebonnet District held their season ending tournament last (Sunday) night at Rose Bowl Lanes and handed out the year end awards.

For the tournament each bowler was seeded according to their year-long average.  In the boys final Sophomore Reid Janner defeated his brother Wyatt Janner by a score of 179-143. During the tournament Wyatt Janner had the high game with a 236 in the semi-final match, while Thomas Loesch rolled a 220 in the quarterfinal.  The closest match of the bracket was in one of the semi-finals where Reid Janner held off Thomas Loesch 181-176.  Loesch had a chance to seal the victory, but left a single pin spare in the 9^th to allow Reid to move on to the Championship match.

The girls final was the most exciting match of the year.  Sr. Reese Johnson battled with Soph. Laina Nugent in a match that will be remembered for a long time.  In the 10^th frame, Johnson held a slight lead, but left a single pin spare to open the door for Nugent. 

Laina struck with her first ball in the 10th and needed 10 more pins to win outright.  She got 6 pins on her first ball and narrowly missed the spare meaning the match was tied at 155-155. 

In extra time, there was to be a one frame roll off to determine the Girl’s Bluebonnet District Tournament Champion.  Johnson led off the extra frame with a nine that was matched by Nugent.  Laina went first in the 2^nd extra frame and rolled a strike.  Reese calmly stepped up and matched Laina.  In the 3^rd extra frame, Johnson once again rolled a nine.  Nugent threw a great ball, but only came up with eight pins, meaning Johnson was the Girl’s champion.

Cadeyn Manley of Burton had his best game of the year in the Flight A final to win that bracket, while Dane Cleboski also of Burton took home top honors in Flight B.

The Brenham teams now head off to the Region VII tournament in Tomball this Sunday March 2^nd.  Brenham will be competing with teams from the Houston area for the right to go to the 2025 Dick Atkinson State Championship tournament in San Antonio later in March. 

Qualifying as individuals for the Regional tournament are Reid Janner, Mason Wolf, Colleen Cole and Laina Nugent.
