CUB BASEBALL SHUTS OUT CY CREEK 5-0
The Brenham Cub Baseball Team picked up right where they left off at the end of last week with a 5-0 shutout victory over the Cy Creek Cougars.
The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning. Brody Tucker led it off with a single to left. Caleb Maurer was brought in as a courtesy runner. Maurer stole second, and later came in to score on an RBI single by Barrett Kohring. Due to lots of foul territory, Kohring ended up going all the way to third on a passed ball. He would then score on a wild pitch to give the Cubs a 2-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, Brenham would tack on two more insurance runs. Tucker hit an RBI double that scored Cannon Credeur, and Kohring had an RBI single to bring home Grady Gee, which gave the Cubs a 4-0 lead. Credeur and Gee both reached earlier in the inning on walks.
Brenham added one more run in the top of the seventh. Mendoza singled and then came around to score on an RBI double by Credeur to increase the Cub advantage to 5-0.
Luke Hardy got the start on the mound and pitched the first four innings to get the win. Kyler Goss pitched two perfect innings in the fifth and sixth. Brayden Steele retired all three batters he faced in the seventh to secure the win.
Next up for the Cubs, they will be taking part in the Corpus Christi Tournament which runs Thursday-Saturday.
