CUBS BEAT HARLINGEN 9-1 FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN
The Brenham Cub Baseball Team wrapped up the Corpus Christi Tournament with their third straight victory as they defeated Harlingen 9-1.
After Harlingen jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Cubs bounced back in the top of the second inning. Evan Curtis was hit by a pitch, and then Brayden Steele and Caleb Maurer followed with back-to-back walks to load the bases. Brody Tucker would then bring them all in with a three-run double to make it 3-1 Cubs.
In the third inning, Drake Bentke slugged a double to centerfield. The next batter, Landry Mendoza, reached on an error that allowed Bentke to score. Mendoza later came home on a sacrifice fly by Curtis, which made it 5-1 Brenham.
The Cubs tacked on four more runs in the fourth. Brady Rau reached on a one-out single, and came around to score on a combination single by Bentke and an error in the Cardinal outfield. Mendoza followed with a walk. Then, Cannon Credeur put the exclamation point on the game with a three-run homer to give Brenham a 9-1 lead.
Brett Campbell got the win going the first 3 2/3 innings. Kyler Goss closed out the final 1 1/3 innings.
Next up for the Cubs will be the Brenham Alumni Tournament, which runs Thursday-Saturday of next week.
