PANTHERS BEAT IOLA 3-1 TO SPLIT THE SERIES

After dropping the District 26-2A opener to Iola on Tuesday night, the Burton Panther Baseball Team bounced back on Wednesday to defeat Bulldogs 3-1 at Panther Field. The win evened Burton at 6-6 overall and 1-1 in district.

Tyler Witt got the win after going 6 and 2/3 innings. He also scattered six hits, walked two, gave up only one run, and struck out 12 batters. He wound up throwing 114 pitches before giving way to Ryder Biggs, who only needed two pitches to get the last out and earn a save.

Witt got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning. He swung and missed on the third strike, but made it to first base on a passed ball.

Rueben Rodriguez then brought him home with an single to make 1-0, Panthers.

Iola tied it in the top of the first to make it 1-1.

Burton responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Rodriguez led off with a double and then scored on an RBI ground out by Braydon Martin, which gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead.

They would then add an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth. Witt reached on a single, stole second, and stole third. He then scored on an RBI single by Tosta to give the Panthers a 3-1 advantage.
