UNEMPLOYMENT RATES CLIMB IN AREA FOR FEBRUARY
Unemployment rates grew from January to February for Washington County and most area counties.
February job figures released last week by the Texas Workforce Commission logged Washington County’s jobless rate at 4.2 percent for the month, up from 4 percent in January.
The county’s number of unemployed residents increased from 703 in January to 760 last month.
Overall employment and the total civilian labor force also grew, however. The county recorded 17,131 employed citizens last month, up from 16,941 the month prior. The civilian labor force went up from 17,644 in January to 17,891 in February.
In February 2024, the county’s unemployment rate came in at 4.1 percent, with 704 people out of work.
The state’s adjusted unemployment rate remained at 4.1 percent from January to February.
Around the region, February’s unemployment rates include:
- Austin County – 3.9 percent, up from 3.7 percent in January.
- Brazos County – 3.9 percent, up from 3.5 percent.
- Burleson County – 3.9 percent, up from 3.5 percent.
- Colorado County – 3.9 percent, up from 3.7 percent.
- Fayette County – 4.1 percent, up from 4 percent in January.
- Grimes County – 4.8 percent, up from 4.5 percent.
- Lee County – 3.5 percent, no difference from January.
- Waller County – 5.3 percent, up from 5 percent.
