WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER FUNDING AGREEMENT WITH TEXAS HISTORICAL COMMISSION FOR COURTHOUSE RESTORATION
Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday will take up a funding agreement with the Texas Historical Commission (THC) for courthouse improvements.
The purpose of the agreement is to provide for the administration of grant funds to the county to rehabilitate and restore the courthouse property. The THC has awarded $2,234,653 through the Texas Historical Courthouse Preservation Program.
Combined with a local share of $957,708, the total project cost is estimated at $3,192,361. The agreement stipulates that the county must ensure that all matters pertaining to the project are conducted in accordance with standards for the treatment of historic properties, as determined by the THC.
Also on Tuesday, the court will consider a lease agreement between the county and Rita, LLC for the Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Office at 402 North Main Street in Burton. The term of the lease would be for 24 months, expiring on May 31, 2027, with a base monthly rent of $1,200.
Public hearings will be held concerning petitions to install no thru truck signs on Gilmore Road in Precinct 3, from its intersection with Highway 36 North to its intersection with Muery Road; reduce the speed limit on Old Mill Creek Road in Precinct 4, from South Berlin Road to Country Place West Road, from 60 mph to 45 mph; and reduce the speed limit on Old Mill Creed Road, from Country Place West Road to Farmers Road, from 60 mph to 40 mph. After the public hearings, commissioners will vote on orders for each of the petitions.
In other regular session items, commissioners will consider:
- Approval of the 2025 Bluebonnet Festival right-of-way permit application.
- A salary request for first assistant district attorney.
- A proclamation declaring the month of April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month in Washington County.
- A subdivision variance request for a land division fronting FM 389, consisting of 57.585 acres in Precinct 4.
- A formal notice for a water service installation by PGMS along Iron Bridge Road and Colvin Road right-of-way in Precinct 3.
Following commissioners’ regular meeting at 9 a.m., they will convene in an executive session at 10:30 a.m. to discuss personnel matters regarding the human resources director. No action is slated to be taken.
Both meetings will be held at the Washington County Courthouse.
