MONTGOMERY ROUGHS UP CUBS 13-6 IN DISTRICT CONTEST

It was a rough night for the Brenham Cub Baseball Team as they fell to Montgomery 13-6 in the opener of their two game district series at Fireman's Park on Tuesday evening.

Montgomery jumped out in front early with two runs in the first inning, and then followed it up with six runs in the second inning to grab an early 8-0 lead.

The Cubs would get on the board in the second inning. Cannon Credeur led it off with a solo homer, his second of the season. Evan Curtis reached on an error. Two batters later, Caleb Maurer hit a single to centerfield. Dalton Hart also singled, which loaded up the bases. Brody Tucker reached on a fielder's choice, which led to Curtis scoring. Maurer later scored on a wild pitch to cut the Bears' lead to 8-3.

Montgomery came back with four more runs in the top of the third inning to go in front 12-3.

Brenham scored three times in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ethan Aschenbeck led it off with a double. Hart singled, and then on an error by the Bears, Aschenbeck scored. Two batters later, Drake Bentke hit a two-run homer, his third of the season, to cut the lead in half, 12-6.

Montgomery got one more insurance run in the fifth, and that would be the end of the scoring for the game, 13-6.

The loss drops the Cubs to 14-10-1 overall and 5-4 in district. Montgomery jumps into second place, while Brenham drops back into a tie with A&M Consolidated for third place.

The series with the Bears continues on Friday in Montgomery at 7pm. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 6:35pm.
