BURTON PANTHERS BEAT MILANO 14-1 TO SPLIT SERIES

After suffering a tough 5-3 loss on Tuesday night, the Burton Panthers bounced back in a big way with a 14-1 victory over Milano last (Thursday) night.

Burton got it started in the bottom of the first inning. Tyler Witt reached on an error, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on a groundout by Logun Tosta to make it 1-0. Rueben Rodriguez and Eli Jaeger reached on back-to-back singles. Braydon Martin followed with a single to score Rodriguez, and then Ryder Biggs hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Jaeger to increase the lead to 3-0.

Milano picked up their only run of the game in the top of the third inning to cut the Burton lead to 3-1.

The Panthers' offense then exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third. Jaeger reached on a one-out single, took second on a wild pitch, and then scored on an RBI single by Biggs. Houston Hodde reached on an error. Brady Griffin followed by slugging a two-run triple to give Burton a 6-1 lead.

Griffin later scored on a passed ball. Matt Roemer and Witt drew back-to-back walks. Tosta singled home Roemer to make it 8-1 Panthers.

Burton put the game away for good with six more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Martin reached on a one-out single, and then Biggs doubled him home. Hodde followed with a single to score Biggs, which gave the Panthers a 10-1 advantage.

Hodde advanced to second on a passed ball, and then moved to third in a single by Griffin. Roemer added another single to score Hodde. Griffin scored on a passed ball, which upped the Burton lead to 12-1.

Witt and Tosta drew back-to-back walks. Coy Gurka was brought in to courtesy run for Witt. Rodriguez then hit a two-run single to cap off the scoring at 14-1.

The win improves Burton to 13-9 overall and 6-4 in district. Next up, they will host Round Top-Carmine in their home finale on Tuesday at 6:30pm at Panther Field.
