CUBS RALLY TO BEAT IOWA COLONY 8-7 ON SENIORS NIGHT

The Brenham Cubs rallied to pick up an 8-7 non-district win over Iowa Colony last (Thursday) night on Seniors Night at Fireman's Park.

Iowa Colony jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.

The Cubs got one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning. Barrett Kohring led it off with a single. Grady Gee moved him over with a double. Then, Kohring scored on a groundout by Cannon Credeur to cut the Pioneers' lead to 2-1.

The score stayed that way until the top of the fourth inning when Iowa Colony scored four runs to make to take a 6-1 lead.

Brenham managed to get three of the runs back. Austin Maurer and Kaden Flisowski hit back-to-back singles. Drake Bentke drew a walk, which loaded the bases.

Kohring reached on a error, which allowed Austin Maurer to score. Brady Rau drew a bases loaded walk to score Flisowski. Then, Gee hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Bentke. That cut the Pioneer lead down to 6-4.

The Cubs added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Flisowski walked, Cooper Reese singled, and then Drake Bentke delivered the big blow of the night with a three-run homer. Those runs gave Brenham their first lead of the game, 7-6.

Iowa Colony came back to tie it 7-7 with a run in the top of the 6th inning.

Then, in the bottom of the sixth inning, Gee singled, and Credeur and Blaine Bartlett drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Austin Maurer would be the next batter up and get hit by a pitch to bring home Gee with what would turn out to be the game winning run for the Cubs, 8-7.

Brenham used four pitchers with Brody Hemann getting the win in relief.

The Cubs are now 17-10-1 on the season. They now get ready for the final week of district play against Rudder next week. Next up, they will be at Rudder on Tuesday night at 7pm. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 6:35pm.
