EMERGENCY PREPARATION SUPPLIES SALES TAX HOLIDAY APRIL 26-28
Shoppers will soon be able to take advantage of a tax-free weekend for emergency preparation supplies.
A sales tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 26th and ends at midnight on Monday, April 28th. The holiday allows for the tax-exempt purchase of certain supplies needed for emergencies, like hurricanes, wildfires and flash floods.
Items that qualify for the exemption are household batteries, fuel containers and flashlights priced less than $75; hurricane shutters and emergency ladders priced less than $300; and portable generators priced less than $3,000.
There is no limit on the number of qualifying items that can be purchased.
Items that do not qualify for sales tax exemption during the holiday include batteries for automobiles, boats and other motorized vehicles; camping stoves and camping supplies; chainsaws; plywood; tents; and extension ladders and stepladders.
Online purchases count delivery, shipping, handling and transportation charges as part of the sales price.
A complete list of emergency preparation supplies that can be purchased tax-free is available on the Texas Comptroller’s website.
