CUBETTES WIN GAME ONE 7-6 OVER KINGWOOD PARK
The rain and the lightning caused a delay in last (Thursday) night's Bi-District opener, but when play resumed and all was said and done, the Brenham Cubette Softball Team defeated Kingwood Park 7-6 in Game One of their Bi-District Series.
The Cubettes got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first inning. McKenzie Tiemann singled, and then stole second. She then came around to score when Kinley Antkowiak reached on an error, and give Brenham a 1-0 lead.
Kingwood Park tied it at 1-1 with a run in the top of the second inning.
The Cubettes re-took the lead in the bottom of the second. Aldyn Jaks reached on a one-out single, stole second, went to third on a passed ball, and then scored on an RBI single by Stella Landry to put Brenham back in front 2-1.
The Lady Panthers came up with two runs in the top of the third to jump in front 3-2.
In the bottom of the third, Avery Maurer led it off with single, stole second, and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Tiemann. That tied the game at 3-3.
The score would stay that way until the top of the fifth inning when Kingwood Park came up with three runs to take a 6-3 lead over the Cubettes.
Maurer got one of those runs back by hitting her seventh home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth inning. Later in the inning, Sloan Tucker drew a bases loaded walk, which scored Sarah Mabie to cut the Lady Panther lead to 6-5.
Then, in the bottom of the sixth inning, Tucker drew another bases loaded walk that scored Laityn Davis and tied the game at 6-6. The next batter, Aldyn Jaks, drew a bases loaded walk as well, which scored Maurer with what would turn out to be the game winning run. Brenham went on to win it 7-6.
Davis went 2 1/3 shutout innings in relief to get her fifth win of the season.
The Cubettes are now 16-11 on the season. Game Two is tonight (Friday) at 6:30pm at Cy Falls High School. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame show at 6pm on 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com.
If Brenham wins, the series is over. If they don't win, both teams will come back on Saturday for a winner-take-all game at at 10am (9:30 am pregame on KWHI.)
