SHED FIRE, APARTMENT FIRE AMONG FIVE CALLS SUNDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.

The Brenham Fire Department was called out five times on Sunday.

Shortly after 8:45 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at Smitty’s Café and Bakery, 4355 Highway 290 West.  Members of the Brenham Fire Department and Berlin Volunteer Fire Department arrived on location to find nothing showing from the exterior of the building.  Upon entering, they found no signs of smoke or fire.  An employee advised they were smelling it by the front door, but nothing was found, so all units returned to service.

At 12:30 p.m., the department went out to a report of a structure fire at the Bluffview Villas senior apartments, 2699 Schulte Boulevard.  Nothing was showing from the outside of the building, but upon entering the apartment, they found that the renter had extinguished a kitchen fire with a fire blanket.  Firefighters used a fan to ventilate the apartment and cleaned up the kitchen before clearing the scene.

Around 3:30 p.m., BFD members responded to a transportation incident in the 2200 block of Highway 290 West.  They discovered a two-vehicle accident and checked for injuries and fluids, but nothing was found.  They moved one vehicle to a parking lot and returned to the station.

Just shy of 4 p.m., units were called out to a lock-in at a home in the 1400 block of Clay Street after receiving a report that the homeowner had fallen with all of the doors locked.  They arrived and discovered all doors were locked, so they entered the home by a window and unlocked the door.

Approaching 6:15 p.m., the department was dispatched to a structure fire call in the 3200 block of Terrier Hill Lane.  Upon making location, units found a 15x15 foot shed fully involved in fire.  They used a handline to extinguish the blaze and visited with the homeowner before returning to service.
