Mayor Karen Buck, Position 1 Councilmember Nathan Kalkhake and Position 4 Councilmember Paul McLaughlin were sworn in for two-year terms expiring in 2027.  Position 3 Councilmember Jeff Eckhardt was chosen as Mayor Pro Tem, and McLaughlin will serve as Sergeant at Arms.

During the monthly reports section of the meeting, City Secretary Angela Harrington announced that the topic of a subdivision ordinance will soon return for debate, after having been discussed at length and denied twice earlier this year

Harrington said she spoke with McLaughlin about putting the item back on the agenda after he stated he had multiple people reach out to him on the issue while he was campaigning.  An item is scheduled for the June council agenda to create a committee of three people to look into the ordinance further.

In regular session, councilmembers voted to increase the amount paid each month to Josh Guelker for meter reader services from $500 to $600.  Most of the council was in favor of giving the raise to Guelker, saying he has not asked for one since 2019 and that his expenses have risen considerably since then.  However, Eckhardt was opposed, saying while he does not believe Guelker is not deserving of the raise, he felt the timing seemed “wrong” after the city recently decided to raise utility rates.

The council also accepted a bid from J. Mendoza Tree Service for $5,000 for work on Navasota Street and an alleyway between Burton Street and Texas Street.
