Gas prices for the Memorial Day weekend are down from where they were a week ago.

According to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch, the statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is $2.76, down 3 cents from last week.  The price is up 2 cents from last month, but it is down 40 cents from this time last year.

In Brenham, the average price of gas at reporting gas stations is $2.65, with a low of $2.42 and a high of $2.90.

Surveying the metropolitan areas in Texas, drivers in the Fort Worth-Arlington region are spending the most on average per gallon at $2.90, while drivers in Waco are paying the least at $2.59.

Nationwide, the average price per gallon of fuel is $3.18, which is the same price as a week ago, 1 cent more expensive than this time last month, and 42 cents cheaper than last year at this time.

AAA is projecting 45.1 million people will travel domestically at least 50 miles from home over the Memorial Day holiday period, spanning from May 22-26.  AAA says the forecast is up 1.4 million travelers from last year and would break the Memorial Day weekend record of 44 million people set in 2005.
