BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER CREATION OF SUBDIVISION ORDINANCE COMMITTEE

The Burton City Council plans to restart the discussion about a subdivision or land division ordinance when it meets Tuesday.

The council will act on the creation of a four-person committee, consisting of Councilmember Paul McLaughlin and three residents, for the purpose of making recommendations for an acceptable ordinance.  The ordinance is intended to provide rules and regulations regarding the subdivision of land and plats within the city.

The topic of a subdivision ordinance was discussed at length during meetings earlier this year, with councilmembers issuing a split vote in January and February against adopting it.  However, at last month’s council meeting, City Secretary Angela Harrington said McLaughlin had spoken with her about getting the item back on the agenda after having people reach out to him on the issue while campaigning for the May election.

In other items on Tuesday, councilmembers will possibly hire Southern Roots Fencing and Supply to put a 16-foot gate in the fencing for the city’s water well.  They will also discuss a contract between the city and J. Mendoza Tree Service, as well as the future of a water line under FM 2780.

The council will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Burton City Hall.
