NEW PARKLET COMPLETE IN DOWNTOWN BRENHAM
A new addition to downtown Brenham is now complete.
The public parklet on Park Street, outside the Ballad of the Bird Dog/Mescalito Coffee, is open for all visitors to downtown who are looking for a shaded seating area to have a meal or to rest.
Jared Anderson, co-owner of Ballad of the Bird Dog along with his wife, Kathleen Matthews, says the parklet was substantially completed in February, but the landscaping and architectural finishes, like planters and umbrellas, wrapped up a few weeks ago.
Anderson says the parklet was driven by community demand and support and is intended to demonstrate the charm of downtown.
The concept and design for the parklet was incorporated into the greater renovation project of the Grand Leader building at 100 East Alamo Street, which began in late 2021. Five tables are open to seat roughly 25 people.
Anderson says the venture was jointly conceived with city officials, but was paid for and is maintained privately. He says while the process leading up to now has not been without challenges, the feedback on the parklet has been very positive. He adds that he is proud of what they have been able to create and wants to keep working with others to make downtown better.
While the vision for the project has been realized, Anderson says they could look to add lighting and minor finishes later on.
Nice additive however I would prefer the parking spaces. Brenham needs more parking space.
OH, yes, parking spaces are much more beautiful.
