ONE BRENHAM MAN ARRESTED FOR DRUG POSSESSION, ANOTHER FOR DOMESTIC ASSAULT

  

Brenham police made one arrest on Wednesday on drug charges and another arrest early this (Thursday) morning on charges including assault, criminal mischief and terroristic threat.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sergeant Tiffany Anderson conducted a traffic stop in the 1300 block of South Austin Street for a license plate violation.  Police conducted a probable cause search due to an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.  Police say their investigation revealed that the driver was in possession of cocaine, amphetamines, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and an open alcohol container.  27-year-old Darius Belt of Brenham was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, Less Than a Gram, Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 2, Less Than a Gram, Possession of Marijuana Under 2oz., Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of an Open Alcohol Container in a Motor Vehicle and Driving While License Invalid.  Belt was transported to the Washington County Jail.

At 1:15 a.m. today, officers responded to the 200 block of South Market Street for a disturbance.  According to police, the calling party reported that her ex-boyfriend dragged her by her shirt and strangled her to the point where she could not breathe and lost consciousness.  Additionally, police say the victim told them that while she was being strangled, the suspect threatened her by saying she was lucky he did not kill her.  The suspect is also accused of damaging the driver’s side mirror of the victim’s vehicle.  21-year-old Homero Balderas Jr. of Brenham was placed into custody and booked in at the Washington County Jail for Assault of a Family/Household Member Impeding Breath/Circulation, Criminal Mischief $100 - $750 and Terroristic Threat of a Family/Household Member.
