WASHINGTON CO. LADIES LIONS CLUB PRESENTS ANNUAL AWARDS, MAKES DONATIONS

  

July’s meeting of the Washington County Ladies Lions Club highlighted accomplishments of the club’s top members and presented donations.

Outgoing President Enid Kocian announced the top two club awards: Lion of the Year and Rookie of the Year.  Janna Alsobrook was named the Lion of the Year.  The Rookies of the Year were Marita Mikeska and Misti Hartstack Corn.  Each award recipient received a Lions statue and flowers.

Sixteen members earned perfect attendance: Janna Alsobrook, Nelda Buck, Judy Hulsey, Sheila Webb, Thresia Schlabach, Bette Tofel, Enid Kocian, Pat Lueckemeyer, Wanda McMahon, Jan Klingsporn, Charlotte Mulligan, Peggy Kramer, Linda Kocian, Linda Oberhoff, Connie Kendall and Sherry Kruger.

Receiving the Blue Heart Award for support to the president were Wanda McMahon, Thresia Schlabach, Linda Oberhoff, Peggy Kramer and Sherry Kruger.

The Melvin Jones Fellowship was awarded to Judy Hulsey.  The Melvin Jones Fellowship is the highest form of recognition offered by Lions Clubs International Foundation.  It is named after Melvin Jones, the founder of Lions Clubs International, and is given to individuals who demonstrate exceptional service and dedication to humanitarian efforts, embodying the spirit of Lionism.

Also at the meeting, the club made a $500 donation for Kerr County flood relief to the Kerrville Host Lions Club Foundation, which is coordinating directly with first responders to ensure that all donated funds go toward assisting displaced families and communities in need. 

Additionally, the club presented a $325 donation to the Faith Mission Food Pantry from its two recent hunger projects.  The food pantry serves between 40 and 110 local families per week.  Food vouchers are available on a per-case basis and will be issued to those who have met the requirements as outlined by the Faith Mission service handbook.
