WASHINGTON COUNTY’S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN JUNE UNCHANGED, BUT MOVEMENT FOR SOME OTHER COUNTIES

  

Unemployment rates for the month of June held steady in some area counties and saw variation in others.

According to data from the Texas Workforce Commission, Washington County’s jobless rate remained the same from May to June, at 3.8 percent.

The county’s number of unemployed residents over that timeframe dropped slightly from 678 to 676. 

Employment grew from 17,190 to 17,240.  The total civilian labor force also increased from 17,868 to 17,916.

In June 2024, the county reported an unemployment rate of 4.2 percent, with 730 people out of work.

The state’s adjusted unemployment rate dipped from 4.1 percent in May to 4 percent in June. 

Across the region, jobless rates in June include:

  • Austin County – 3.7 percent, no difference from May.
  • Brazos County – 3.5 percent, up from 3.4 percent.
  • Burleson County – 3.5 percent, up from 3.3 percent.
  • Colorado County – 3.6 percent, no change.
  • Fayette County – 3.7 percent, down from 3.8 percent in May.
  • Grimes County – 4.7 percent, up from 4.3 percent.
  • Lee County – 3.4 percent, up from 3.3 percent.
  • Waller County – 5 percent, up from 4.7 percent.
