BURTON CITY COUNCIL PLANNING TO PROPOSE HIGHER TAX RATE

The Burton City Council will potentially propose an increased property tax rate at its meeting on Tuesday.

The city is looking at proposing a tax rate of $0.3363 per $100 valuation, with $0.043823 dedicated to maintenance and operations (M&O) and $0.292477 for interest and sinking (I&S).

The new rate would be roughly a 4 cent increase from the existing rate of $0.297267 per $100, which has $0.045349 set for M&O and $0.251918 for I&S.

The vote on proposing the tax rate would include action to set a public hearing for Tuesday, September 9th at 5:30 p.m.

Also in session, councilmembers will take up a possible agreement with the Texas A&M Texas Target Communities Program.  The community engagement program works alongside local governments and stakeholders with a stated goal of helping communities become more equitable, resilient and adaptive.

In other business, the council will:

  • Vote on hiring Lampe Surveying for approximately $2,000 to survey a portion of creek property to convey.
  • Authorize road closures for the Trick or Treat Trail on October 25th from 5 to 8 p.m.
  • Consider rescheduling the November council meeting from the second Tuesday of the month (November 11th) to Wednesday, November 12th to avoid conflicts with the Veterans Day national holiday.

The council will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Burton City Hall.
