UNEMPLOYMENT RATES UP IN AREA FOR JULY
Unemployment rates grew for Washington and most area counties for the month of July.
Per data from the Texas Workforce Commission, Washington County reported an unemployment rate of 4 percent in July, up from 3.8 percent in June.
The number of unemployed residents in the county rose from 674 in June to 714 last month.
However, both employment and the total civilian labor force also increased over the course of June to July. Employment figures went up from 17,235 to 17,330, while the labor force climbed from 17,909 to 18,044.
In July 2024, the county reported a jobless rate of 4.1 percent, with 733 people out of work.
The state’s adjusted unemployment rate remained the same from month to month, at 4 percent.
Unemployment rates for area counties include:
- Austin County – 3.9 percent, up from 3.7 percent in June.
- Brazos County – 3.8 percent, up from 3.5 percent.
- Burleson County – 3.5 percent, no difference.
- Colorado County – 3.7 percent, up from 3.6 percent.
- Fayette County – 3.8 percent, up from 3.7 percent in June.
- Grimes County – 4.9 percent, up from 4.6 percent.
- Lee County – 3.6 percent, up from 3.4 percent.
- Waller County – 5.4 percent, up from 5 percent.
