FORMER CUB HEAD FOOTBALL COACH RON MILLS PASSES AWAY

Former Brenham Cub Head Football Coach Ron Mills has died.

Mills passed away on September 15 at the age of 90. His funeral was held on September 27 at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home in Boerne.

Mills was the Head Football Coach and Athletic Director at Brenham High School from 1990-1993. His best season at his last one where the Cubs went 8-5 and made it to the Region Semifinals of the playoffs.

He retired after the 1993 season. Prior to Brenham, he had coaching stints at Bay City, where he won a state title, Groom, Canyon, and San Marcos.

Mills finished with a career record of 203-115-14, and was inducted into the Texas High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Honor in 2012.

Mills was born on February 8, 1935 in Rush Springs, Oklahoma. He attended White Deer High School, and went to college at West Texas State University.

While at West Texas State, Mills was named co-captain of the football team, and went on to win the MVP of the 1957 Tangerine Bowl. He was later selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the 1958 NFL draft.

Mills and his Nynvia have a family that includes two sons, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
