BURTON BOND CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: CAFETERIA NOW OPEN

The Burton School Board heard updates on Monday regarding ongoing bond construction, including about the cafeteria that is now open for students.

Weaver and Jacobs Constructors Project Manager Ryan Malinovsky informed trustees that work crews have wrapped up with equipment installation in the cafeteria and kitchen and are finishing up cosmetic items that can be completed during off-hours.  Superintendent Vikki Curry said the cafeteria opened up for serving last Monday.

Additionally, Malinovsky said several classrooms are done or close to being finished.  He said the academic wing remains the priority to turn over for occupancy as soon as possible, though he did note that there will likely be overlap with school employees moving in as construction crews finish up.  He also said that progress will be made over the winter break, but there may be some days where it will slow down, compared to a normal schedule.

Trustees expressed satisfaction with how the project is shaping up so far and told Malinovsky to not feel the need to rush, as they want to make sure the work is done right the first time.

Also at Monday’s meeting, the board agreed to waive prekindergarten tuition for the children of Burton ISD employees for the 2025-26 school year, cast votes for the Washington County Appraisal District Board of Directors and approved a localized board policy update in accordance with changes from the 89th Legislative Session.
