BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD MEETING RECAP

The Brenham School Board met last (Monday) night to discuss new state requirements for seat belts on school buses.

Senate Bill 546 from the 89th Texas Legislature set new standards for three-point seat belts on buses by September 1, 2029.

School districts across the state are working through how to bring their fleets into compliance, whether by purchasing new buses or retrofitting the existing ones.

At the meeting, it was learned that forty buses in the Brenham ISD fleet already are in compliance the new requirements, while there are only five buses that are not in compliance.

The board elected to take no action at this time.

The five buses, which are already said to be in rough shape, are expected to be eventually be phased out before the 2029 deadline.

In other action items, board members approved the purchase of wind screens at Cub Stadium. The money will be paid for by the athletic department with money raised from their fundraisers.

They also approved the annual instructional allotment materials report, TEKS certification, the purchase of library books, and budget amendments.

The School Board closed the meeting with an executive session to discuss a Texas Education Agency Safety audit. No action was taken.
