TEXAS A&M AGRILIFE EXTENSION TO HOST A SPRING STREAM CLEANUP EVENT

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension ServiceTexas State Soil and Water Conservation Board and the Mill Creek Watershed Partnership will host an upcoming Spring Stream Cleanup event in Bellville.

The free event, which is being held on May 9, will begin at 2245 FM 2429, and litter will be picked up from 9 a.m. to noon.

Participants must preregister at the Mill Creek Partnership website at tx.ag/MillCreek or by calling 979-321-5921.

AgriLife Extension program specialist and Mill Creek Watershed coordinator Annalee Epps said that it is a great opportunity to get outside, connect with neighbors, and have a positive impact on local water quality.

The public is invited to attend and help clean bridge sites in the Mill Creek Watershed. Volunteers will pick up litter and remove tires at the bridge over Mill Creek.

There will also be satellite locations where selected volunteers will be deployed after the initial meeting.

Cleanup supplies will be provided, including trash bags, trash grabbers, safety vests and gloves.

Participants are asked to wear long pants and close-toed shoes and consider wearing a large, brimmed hat and long sleeves to reduce sun exposure. Funding for this effort is provided through a federal Clean Water Act Section 319(h) Nonpoint Source Grant administered by the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board.
