BURTON BASEBALL OPENS SERIES WITH AN 8-0 WIN OVER EVADALE
The Burton Panther Baseball Team (22-3) got their series against Evadale started off on a good note with an 8-0 victory last (Thursday) night.
Burton scored quickly in the first inning. Tyler Witt singled, stole second base, and took third on an error. He, then, came home to score on an RBI groundout by Logun Tosta.
The Panthers added two more runs in the bottom of the third. Isaac Matthies reach on an error, and Coy Gurka and Tyler Witt followed with back-to-back walks to load the bases. Tosta grounded out, which allowed Matthies to come home. Then, Braydon Martin grounded out to allow Gurka to score and make it 3-0 Burton.
The Panthers tacked on three additional in the fourth, which was their biggest inning in the game. Ryder Biggs led it off with a single, and he then stole second. Eli Jaeger would then bring him home with an RBI single to give Burton a 4-0 lead. Matthew Roemer drew a walk, and Matthies reached on an error to load the bases.
Gurka drew a bases loaded walk to score Jaeger, and Witt hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Roemer. That increase the Panthers' advantage to 6-0.
The next Burton run came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Rueben Rodriguez led it off with a double. He later came around to score on an RBI single by Eli Jaeger to make it 7-0.
The Panthers got their final run in the sixth. Tyler Witt hit a leadoff double, and he later came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Braydon Martin, which gave Burton an 8-0 lead.
Tyler Witt turned in another dominating performance. He got the win after pitching seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits and one walk, while striking out 12.
The series was supposed to continue tonight (Friday). However, due to the rainfall received, it has been pushed back. KWHI will pass along the details of the re-scheduling as soon as they are available.
