Prior to Somerville ISD’s band concert on Thursday, State Senator Lois Kolkhorst read out a resolution signed by the Senate in recognition of Idlebird’s induction last year into the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) Hall of Fame.
The resolution says Idlebird, known to many as “Mr. I”, “has led the Yegua Band program to top honors at countless competitions and positively impacted the lives of thousands of students.” It also says, “Through his dedication, encouragement, and mentorship, he has left an indelible mark on Somerville High School and on the lives of countless young people, and he is truly deserving of his induction into the ATSSB Hall of Fame Class of 2025.”
Kolkhorst offered Idlebird a heartfelt congratulations, saying the honor is “well-deserved.”
Idlebird has served as Somerville ISD’s band director since 1992.
