The 22nd-ranked Blinn College softball team split a Region 14 South doubleheader with Lamar State College-Port Arthur on Sunday.

The Buccaneers won the opener 6-5 before the Seahawks rallied for a 10-9, nine-inning victory in the finale. Blinn moved to 29-17 overall and 13-9 in South play.

Blinn built a comfortable lead in game one before fending off Lamar State-Port Arthur in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.

Freshman outfielder Skylar Flanagan led off the game with a single and later scored on an error. Sophomore catcher/third baseman Cadence Wiese followed with an RBI double to make it 2-0.

In the fourth inning, sophomore first baseman Daniela Lopez drove in a run on a groundout, and Flanagan added an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0.

Wiese scored on an error in the fifth and added an RBI single in the sixth to push the advantage to 6-0.

The Seahawks answered with a run in the sixth and threatened with four more in the seventh. With runners on second and third and two outs, freshman pitcher Jamison Wlos recorded a game-ending strikeout to preserve the win.
