OVER 3,000 EARLY VOTERS THROUGH THREE DAYS

Voting in the primary runoff election in Washington County is keeping a steady pace.

Washington County Elections Administrator Carol Jackson reports 1,028 people came out on Wednesday, including 990 Republicans and 38 Democrats.

Through three days of early voting, 3,067 ballots have been cast, including 2,941 in the Republican primary and 126 in the Democratic primary.

Jackson says the runoff election is “off to an excellent start” and commends the level of participation by voters and staff.  She believes the turnout will increase over the remaining two days of early voting, and given the shortened early voting period of five days rather than the standard 12 days, she says it aligns with the level of voter participation.

According to Jackson, an estimated 11 percent of the county’s 25,802 registered voters have voted early in person.

The Washington County Courthouse Annex is open today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday) for early voting from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Election Day is Tuesday.
