GAS PRICES CONTINUE ASCENT FOR MEMORIAL DAY
Gas prices continue to climb heading into Memorial Day weekend.
According to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch, the statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is $4.09. That is 10 cents more than this time last week, 48 cents more than this time last month, and $1.31 more than a year ago.
In Brenham, the average price of gas at reporting gas stations comes out to $4.15, with a low of $3.78 and a high of $4.50.
A survey of the metropolitan areas in Texas shows drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average per gallon at $4.31, while drivers in the Beaumont – Port Arthur region are spending the least at $3.98.
Across the country, the average price for a gallon of fuel is $4.55, which is 3 cents higher than a week ago, 53 cents more than a month ago, and $1.36 more than last year.
AAA predicts 45 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home over the holiday period, which began on Thursday and continues through Monday. AAA says the domestic travel forecast is slightly higher than last year and would set a new Memorial Day weekend record.
