BRENHAM MAN ARRESTED FOR CHECK FRAUD, CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE POSSESSION

  

A Brenham man faces charges of fraud and controlled substance possession after his arrest by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday.

A few minutes after 10:45 a.m., Deputy Jacob Faske was dispatched to the 500 block of Main Street in Burton in reference to a person attempting to cash a fraudulent check.

According to the sheriff’s office, the subject had left the location, leaving the check and their driver’s license behind.

Deputy Faske observed the suspect’s vehicle at FM 2502 and FM 389 and initiated a traffic stop.  The driver was detained after being identified as the same person alleged to have attempted to cash the check.

The sheriff’s office reports that a search of the vehicle led to the discovery and seizure of additional checks, methamphetamine and contraband.

55-year-old Scott Jay Waters was placed under arrest and taken to the Washington County Jail.  He was booked for Forgery of a Financial Instrument $750 - $2,500, Fraudulent Use/Possession of Identifying Information Less Than 5 Items, Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, 4-200 Grams, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
