COLORADO CO. ADOPTS BURN BAN

Colorado County has become the latest county in the region to adopt a burn ban.

Colorado County officials declared a burn ban effective today (Friday), prohibiting outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of the county.

The emergency burn ban declaration cites the lack of rainfall and current drought index as reasons for outdoor burning becoming a public safety hazard.  The order will remain in effect for seven days unless it is extended by the commissioners court.

Colorado County joins Grimes County on the list of area counties with burn bans, after Grimes County enacted its own ban on Wednesday.

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, as of today, there are 175 counties in Texas with active burn bans.
