AUSTIN CO. ADOPTS BURN BAN
The number of counties with burn bans continues to grow, after Austin County moved on Monday to pass a burn ban.
The burn ban order restricts outdoor burning in unincorporated areas of the county, save for activities related to public health and safety that are authorized by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
Violations of the burn ban are a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $500.
Washington, Lee, Colorado and Grimes counties also have enacted burn bans in recent days.
As of Tuesday, 190 counties in Texas had active burn bans.
